There was a problem with the squares I was making, where the middle would unravel after I had already sewn them all together. I decided to cast it aside, and before I knew it I was leaving for my roadtrip with the mister.

So I started a new project, and finished it.

This is the bird I was making, he goes by the name Pyoro and he is from a Wario Ware game called Birds and Beans Smiley He's absolutely adorable, and I was making a blanket for my boyfriend Marc's brother Ryan. I knew he loved Pyoro, but I suspect he might love the blanket even more.

I used all Red Heart, since I was on a two-month road trip with my boyfriend. We traveled 16, 000km (or 10, 000 mi) this summer, and have seen every state except 12 and 7 provinces. So, I had a lot of free time, and had to ensure that the yarn I chose would be universally available. I used a 6.00mm hook.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_rT__kV59V12jhl-VHYsSZXSU3wqrcfDwglacKIIS4MbQ3cMfFki-jCcqHDtzJ3jsi0w0BfU5qKi4IiicHrIuuRc347IhJC-rqH9auoZ21eq_3kEbFJijtjeP1JSLnjUpPnDN71fEVi5p/s320/DSCN2146.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508183663046918434" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3sxLRhkQ0c4mNfsPY8HDjxmAPIIGAteVHqn3OdIWgvisYS1f1ubJhPnNPSwF3TplwUKCQtRuTbWp4OxORkEwBosIhl4IWQKS2pTyTGLkix0t_wQHQ89UHmvB4Kf3dFnA4-8RW2oGrxvnM/s320/DSCN2147.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508184221915590450" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPDrck3BqaR9FYP-1-ilarcg8GXoYonsAo3vqVwAg_eSS2AFV2gFJiH2xLavxgul4epeEuDnmLxu5QwftJ7CJB783qUVlflLqlah8_qQpBEMOerFIThC-BE4f1bXyAUXMYHxHNq1d6NQL8/s320/DSCN2149.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508183950430079298" />

So, one project down and a million more I want to do :PKate Isgreathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09722494558276823198noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1262598481408147329.post-17373994325694103142010-05-11T06:32:00.002-04:002010-05-11T06:37:06.311-04:00Yoshi Blanket (progress sneak peak)This picture shows the shape:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTOyjcn0H-fLkx-xe01pt2b7XdcFtS4aEkDLfUuKpkWUE8aISe_se_poBeKye9U-DRPk5tAeQFXtf0hPEKWyQSZTz3QW2-5NJdlCLaPD0iP1C_Nz37NPuqt7TYI81ACfAOJXo0L-Hwn-Xj/s320/0511000625a.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469959571582617618" />

This picture shows the colour:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijPFlA_ey8Hf0RkJQDmP5QLkixVlxhSd24AlAAHh4TdoxDUifPVA6CzQK6SZz2kzOXunLOJwtLdTqdxmmSsqaWWrD9Y2PPQqRcEZtV0rjVLWLZ9OIyqi27hhYAfXCkRHXzQQowTGKAfgoV/s320/0511000625b.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469959181353457378" />Kate Isgreathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09722494558276823198noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1262598481408147329.post-36733989485837689182010-04-29T05:39:00.003-04:002010-04-29T06:16:59.622-04:00Yoshi blanket sneak peek!Shhhhh. I've been experimenting with multicoloured yarn in the star patterns - particularly the rainbow Red Heart I bought at Wal-Mart in Orange County, CA. I had originally bought the wool to finish my boyfriends Christmas present blanket (which I knit - before I knew the wonders of crocheting for large projects)

Here is the first rainbow star that I made:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhUd-DTj_fWAB0FyynG6o5VVe4yBS7RobrZ-EBwu44PZzBiEcqI5yxS59rsGxKeZolp-KgC-uSl3r3NEP4IUwzNuhwnCV6-2nFLmCCKA7PzBg-Kj9FHVDexkCD47OXStwVWIpYuabTVodS/s320/0412000524.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465096100451511858" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjthPBnaY6gjRn6e4LAPZ_1us5iei-MZTl71H9qDZpoRQelWMKk7X3qqBnvW0zFFGEBHGv-W20BZGE59Pe-JZCN-0AKOu6SAhYJ19oA206IYHnBH4ofRFI4zW1hwtWz1nj8OxC3OMn0mDt/s320/0412000524a.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465096912437535154" />

I then ripped that apart, seeing as it was impossible to look at without feeling ill. This blanket now looks like this, and is still growing to this day:

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyzYdXaNLjjSv_8PasmZypnmOzb3tf2TU5jiGvu4R-KWOkbz2gaFvGhBgXKCFyj3wKneGODulDITpDtFHx8-8o5v8AYN1W_NA3iPR_iI_O6pDhcl4NzCxsW86uSXIDjmKij-aOB7iFTfTN/s320/0414000435.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465097286563593858" />

Right now, my current project is a Yoshi Blanket. It's crocheted with granny squares, and its ridiculously large. I will upload some pictures when it's more obvious what it is. It's hard to forge ahead because there's so much work - not just the making of the squares, but the sewing together. It's going to look awesome when it's done though.

Leave me comments world. My blog is so lonely. :PKate Isgreathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09722494558276823198noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1262598481408147329.post-73443410896092942682010-03-29T08:04:00.007-04:002010-03-29T08:44:50.232-04:00Taco flavored kisses! and my new discraftion explained<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFjc9ZBiE4XkUQL6EmH_MhI-lb1F89nvfgCVcBrSAGXTkclFlLR-DQRkpZ3leI0DywgQyZDk7FYNpVvAc9gks60UCLjdDKTmWu-PwOjsue4Yw_SEFVd4W-HLlESbGRkCx9jFXRZWGDnpcN/s320/blanket+1" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454031401539021794" />

I did it.
I made the fabled Star Afghan.
...and you can even tell what it is!

I gave Taco his blanket, he seems to really love it. That kids, is how it's done. Take a lesson from me, and make yourself a teacher. (Yes, I am making this up. If it already exists, I'm not surprised, there's only so many clever ways to string together 'distraction' and 'craft')

I will soon be working from home, midnights, on a very slow shift. To do so, I had to make my beautiful macbook do something unthinkable - run windows. I bought an external hard drive (her name is Bea Ste. Maude - pronounced Bee-ah Saint Maude, but is cleverly meaning 'beast mode' - a name my boyfriend requested), she's a whole TB for me to play with. Once I get this all working though - I will be back at it.

Also, a bum fight I saw on St. Patrick's DayKate Isgreathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09722494558276823198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1262598481408147329.post-70456985440665780372010-03-26T06:14:00.000-04:002010-03-26T06:34:47.574-04:00Living With LionsI've been trying so hard to teach myself to crochet. I want to make a star-shaped baby blanket so badly that I've taught myself a foreign language - the language of a crochet pattern. Talk about confusing! It looked like someone pounded on the keyboard into a random sequence of letters and numbers.

I started by using Google and typing in random phrases like "beginners crochet" and "crochet tutorial", you would be amazed at the help there is out there. I was able to go from never having crocheted a stitch in my life to able to make the blanket in a few night (with dedication, of course.)

I couldn't have even begun to understand the pattern as easily as I did without the Knit Witch - she is awesome. I originally found her on Youtube (her youtube can be found here) and then stumbled my way onto her homepage where you can find lessons, patters, yarn bowls (how neat are they?!) and more.

So far I have completed a dog sized blanket in offensively yellow colours from Red Heart. My tension is still off - the points are too long, and too wide and don't sit properly. The star has to be stretched so it doesn't wrinkle. My little Taco buddy won't care though, he'll love the new addition to his little Taco bed.

I had quite a few rounds done on my first attempt at the baby blanket when I decided to throw a hissy fit about my tension and rip it out. I now can't bring myself to restart. I promised myself I would tomorrow. I will also try to get a picture of the doggie blanket.

I leave you with this awesome band: Living with Lions
Kate Isgreathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09722494558276823198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1262598481408147329.post-1349080444194233072010-03-22T09:24:00.000-04:002010-03-22T09:40:53.291-04:00I'm so impractically n00b.I'm going to get really good at knitting, and even better at crocheting.

I'm going to make neat stuff.

It's going to take a while to get to that point, because I have no talent or experience... but I am determined.
